Vidanta Riviera Maya is gearing up to kick off the fourth season of Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ. Since its debut in 2014, the show has dazzled over 470,000 spectators. Now one of Mexico’s most popular attractions, Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ will amaze audiences from all over the world.
JOYÀ owes much of its popularity to its multisensory experience — the show blends culinary and performing arts to call upon the audience’s five senses.
Drawing from Mexico’s rich history and heritage, JOYÀ follows an alchemist and his granddaughter on an adventure to uncover the secrets of life. Witness the typical grandeur of Cirque du Soleil and dive into a magical world of fantastic creatures as the young girl navigates through a surreal jungle in search of the meaning of life.
Her mystical quest will transport you to an exquisite world of acrobats and world-class artists, who bring the story to life. Spectacular surroundings and live music will accompany you on your journey to the mythical land.
A true pearl in a jungle, the Cirque du Soleil Theatre sits atop a lagoon overlooking the Mayan jungle. The trek to entering the theatre in Vidanta, Riviera Maya is a gradual escape to a different world, preparing you for the spectacle that awaits.
Behind the Scenes of JOYÀ
JOYÀ was inspired by the monarch butterfly migration to Mexico, where they passed ‘life’ to the next generation to ensure the survival of the species. Similarly, the story follows a grandfather who passes on his quest for the meaning of life to his granddaughter.
The architecture around JOYÀ celebrates the Mayan respect for nature and the environment. Architects and builders were very accommodating to the local plants and animals, building around their natural habitat to allow free roam.
The set design commemorates the National Autonomous University of Mexico and marries books with nature. The designers wanted to highlight Mexico’s transmission of knowledge, that dates back to the ancient Mayan civilization. Similarly, they incorporated subtle references to Mexican history and culture throughout the show.
