Consider this Part Two of our series on the ins and outs of timeshare exchange. If you missed Part One, follow this link to get an overview of what a timeshare exchange is and how it works! This time, were going to be delving into how to actually make a timeshare exchange through SFX Preferred Resorts.
The first step to making an exchange is depositing your weeks. When your weeks have been deposited, they will be valid for two years unless you are a Diamond member, in which case your weeks will be valid for up to three years. A helpful strategy is to deposit the timeshare weeks as soon as you know that you are not going to use them. This will be to your advantage later in the exchange process.
The next step is to consider the time and place for which youd like to book your vacation. We recommend providing a fairly large date range (a few weeks or more) along with a number of different vacation destinations. Having an expanded date range increases your chance of finding a match among the deposited timeshare weeks for high-demand locations. This is called putting in a search request.
The third step is to start your search as early as possible. When you initiate your search request, you are given a position in a waitlist for that location(s). SFX Preferred Resorts offers several different membership levels that determine how early you can join the waitlist. Gold members can make their request 12 months in advance while Platinum members can request an exchange up to 18 months prior. Finally, our Diamond members can request the trip 24 months in advance, giving them the strongest chance of being at the front of the waitlist! (For more information about member benefits, take a look at the chart detailing our Membership Plans.)
By following these three simple steps, youll be closer than ever to making the perfect exchange for that ideal getaway.

I have a time share with Mayan at Puerto Penasco. If I deposit this into SFX, do I have to wait for someone to want it before I can get the exchange? What does it cost to deposit for an exchange?
Hi Vern,
Thank you for taking the time to reach out to SFX. Right now we are doing something really special for new members who want to deposit.
You can request an exchange at any time once you become a Diamond member, which is free, and you can sign up online. We give you two free bonus weeks when you make a deposit. There is an exchange fee. All of that information can be found here with the sign up: http://www.sfxresorts.com/membership-programs
Let me know if you have any more questions.
