A Magical Place in Mexico: Puerto Vallarta

The Yucatan Peninsula is home to plenty of beautiful destinations. Puerto Vallarta is a traditional slice of Mexico that offers gorgeous sunsets, amazing food and lots of little shops along cobbled streets to explore.

The white-washed houses with terracotta rooftops and green, sloping mountains make for a picturesque setting on Banderas Bay. Miles away, the Marietas Islands are an idyllic spot to explore and snorkel with hidden beaches, sparkling caves and wondrous cerulean waters. For all of these reasons, Puerto Vallarta is a favorite destination for all types of travelers including celebrity visitors like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

Until a short while ago, Puerto Vallarta was hard to reach for British travelers and was mostly a vacation for American and Canadian visitors. Now direct flights to the area’s airport, this paradise is easily accessible from most continents. It’s one of the reasons Puerto Vallarta has become the perfect getaway for those who just want to enjoy the Mexican coast.

Puerto Vallarta is a very friendly place to visit and explore as most of its resorts were created for western travelers. The town itself is scenic to photograph from the hills overlooking its rooftops and crystal blue ocean. Walking tours are available to guide you through the town’s historic areas or hop on a boat to discover an island excursion with caves and snorkeling around hidden beaches.

A stroll along Banderas Bay is awestrucking at sunset.. This is what Puerto Vallarta is known for. Painted skies with colors across the spectrum make for an extraordinary end to the day and celebration of the coming night. Bonfires, night clubs and seaside bars come to life when the sun goes down, making it easy to relax after a day of segway tours around the Malecon.

On Sundays, Puerto Vallarta celebrates dancing and various entertainment in the main square, Plaza Principal. If you have not let loose, it is hard not to with townspeople beckoning you to join in the merriment.

If it seems like a fantastical place, it is. Weddings on the beach happen nearly every day, and trips to the Hidden Beach in the Marietas make you wonder if this place had a magical spell cast over it. Local tour guides are all too happy to take you into other secret areas of Puerto Vallarta including historical sites with rock engravings left by Aztatlán. At the end of the tour, stop by a tequila distillery to enjoy some spectacular drinks made from the freshest agave.

Relaxing in Puerto Vallarta comes with the territory. There is no shortage of beachside all-inclusive resorts waiting to cater to any need. Some of SFX’s preferred resort partners located in Puerto Vallarta include Bel Air Resort and Spa, Grand Luxxe Residence Club, Mayan Palace, Ocho Cascadas and Paradise Village.
